Today SEG was aquitted on their obsenity charges! This is a huge step for all Canadians involved in the industry. It's been a long and hard fight and I'm so happy they came out on top. I'm glad the Crown picked Steve to fight against and not some small company that might not have the resources, money and balls to fight hard. Again, congratulations and have a good 2004.

April 11/04 - WHY DRUGS ARE BAD; MY STANCE AGAINST CRACK
Yesterday I had just got back from the Phoenix Conference and a long ass road trip when I recieved a forwarded email that was sent to my HOSTING company!?! Really kids... drugs have a detrimental adverse affect on your brains chemistry and wiring, so please I urge you all to "just say no!"Here's the stated email in question. It's a REAL email that was sent to the hosting company admin guy:

"Hello my name is *****n *****n and this is a message for "XXXX XXXX" . I was referred to you from
"****" at (porn company name deleted) inc... To my understanding there is a "Class action law suit" against "PORN CO." productions. About a year ago I responded to an AD in the paper to which this so called production was looking for performers tobe in this film. I meet with a casting director who had me believe that this was big time film being produced, showed me proof of there business and success. None the less "PORN CO." sold my dumb-ass on the idea and I invested a large amount of money into this production. I have yet to receive any monies from them and that includes the principal... I still have contact with them but "PORN CO." shoves me from director to director and tells me the return is forth-coming, I know now that it will never happen(I think). I have done my own investigating on this production and even sought legal-advise but A lawyer will not even bite into it because there is no legal paper trail for a "PORN CO." productions. The B.B.B has nothing on them, really I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.. I have no Idea what you can tell me about this law suit but **** at (porn company name deleted) productions advise me to contact you.......Please point me in the right direction thank you!!!!!!!!!

Blue-movie houses across North America have been forced to close as their audiences find a different way to meet demand -- whether it's taking the titillation home from the video store, or dialing it up on demand via cable or satellite.

But as the days of projected-film pornography slowly wind down, a whole new generation is attempting to repossess the tradition for themselves. They're organizing special porn soirees, rescuing decaying film libraries, and inviting special guests from the golden age of skin flicks.

Dmidtrui Otis is a porn fan. The 42-year-old Vancouver resident has been spreading the gospel of graphic love for years. Recently he and writer Michael Turner purchased an entire library of 16-millimetre reels from the Venus Theatre.

"I can't say the imagery was ever a real part of my life growing up," says Otis. "I was a bit stuffy." His first real encounter with porn movies was in 1987 when he was in Katimavik, the federally sponsored northern youth work program, in Corner Brook, Nfld.
"We had a free day and they had a porn night at the local theatre on Monday nights," Otis recalls. "So, I went.
"I remember it distinctly: I hadn't seen much, felt uncomfortable and I made a point of walking out." Otis never quite made it back into a porn theatre until he walked into the Fox in 2000. "And that was it. I started coming, thinking that I could make a documentary about the last remaining porn houses." As Otis began researching, he discovered places such as the Fox often had a library of reels stored away in back rooms.

"I knew they had Behind the Green Door and Deep Throat," he says. "I thought there might be other people like me who hadn't seen these movies projected on the big screen and might want to check them out -- if only to satisfy their curiosity -- because just the titles are infamous."

After winning their trust, Otis was able to persuade the Fox's owners to support his plan for special screenings. Otis approached Alex MacKenzie at the Blinding Light Cinema and Cafe for some pointers on how to make his show happen. MacKenzie offered to sponsor the event, which gave it needed legitimacy.

"Because after talking to people it was clear that everyone knew where the Fox was but no one -- well no one in our age group -- had ever gone in," says Otis.

"They were afraid. But after I realized how cool it was to be here, I wanted to share it with other people."

When Otis hosted his first Return to Porno Chic event at the Fox in 2001, he had a line of patrons around the block.

"I had to turn people away. But even as it was, people were sitting in the aisles. It was packed. The whole 300-seat theatre was full.
"The energy was great because it was all these people who felt good about being there. There was no stigma -- it gave people an excuse to go out and watch some porn."
Otis's next event at the Fox is scheduled for Thursday (May 29) and he plans to screen another classic -- Disco Dolls, a rare 3-D porn film featuring the famed John Holmes.
"Holmes doesn't have a big part in it ...," Otis starts to say, before twigging to the perhaps unintentional pun.
"He's in it, but only briefly. But everyone else in that film is a regular player -- people who were veterans and have their own following. Everyone has their own favourites."
Otis says it's a myth that video killed the porn film industry.

"In the beginning, video actually increased the popularity of porn," he says. "The budgets got bigger and there was a huge boom. But it did start killing the theatres. People started shooting on video and that was the beginning of the end."

Most of the existing porn houses have switched over to digital video projection systems, leaving the Fox one of the last remaining 35-mm porn houses in North America. Otis believes it could be the very last but not even porn distributors know, since most theatres buy the reels to play over and over again. After all, it's not a clientele that demands first-run releases. The Fox probably hasn't purchased a new title in more than a decade, and it shows in the long green scratches that run through the cluster of thrusting body parts.

"It's not the porn that does it for me," Otis says. "The only purpose of porn is to get off. "What interests me is the cultural periphery and the place these films have in our imagination. You get to know these people. It's a small community, and when you reach out to the stars they're flattered."

We've got a ton of space available here in our studio/office as office space, and of course, the studio would be accessible for when the prospective new tenant needed it for their productions.
As for monthly rates and whatnot, if you are interested, please contact me and we can discuss what you need and what the rates would be for your particular situation. Rates would be on par with what the current market is here in Gastown.
We are not looking for hourly/daily/weekly type deals here, we are looking for established, licensed business that need, or are looking for, permanent space for either their office or for studio space, or both.

There is a company who uses the name M******E Productions who has been not paying models. They advertise in the newspaper, hosting casting calls in hotels, promising $4000US+ for nude pictures. They take the girls pictures and make single girl pay sites, but the models have NOT RECIEVED THE PROMISED MONEY. This has happened to MORE THAN ONE local girl already. One girl did not sign the model release but the pictures were still used to make a pay site using a different name. Be careful out there.
